Black Dial Rolex Submariner with Black Bezel on an Oystersteel Bracelet – $8100
Rolex has just announced eight new Rolex Submariner models. The Sub above (ref. 124060) is the least expensive model – at least until it hits the aftermarket. I reckon the “entry level” Sub is also the best of the bunch. Simple. Elegant. Useful? As you might imagine, the price for a new Rolex Submariner goes up from there . . .
Back Dial Submariner Date with a Green Bezel on an Oystersteel Bracelet – $9,550
Hi ho, Kermit the Frog here! The big news Muppet fans: the 2020 Subs’ larger size (41mm) and the calibers inside. The watch at the top of this post holsters Rolex’s new Calibre 3230. This one (ref. 126610LV) and the rest run off the new-in-2017 Calibre 3235 movement. Both calibers boast an instant date change and a blue Parachrom hairspring. It’s up to 10 times better at withstanding shocks than a traditional hairspring. So there is that.
Black Dial Rolex Submariner Date with Black Bezel on an Oystersteel Bracelet – $9150
What we got here is failure to communicate the same black-on-black Submariner as the dateless wonder at the top of the post, only motivating its hands with the 70-hour power reserve Calibre 3235. Oh and this one has a date wart. To enjoy these additional blessings, this Submariner variant (ref. 126610LN) requires an additional $1450 contribution to the Rolex Foundation.
Blue Dial Submariner with Blue Bezel on a Yellow Roselor bracelet – $14,300
Getting fancy are we? That’s quite a leap – both in terms of price and bling. But the blue-and-gold Rollie (ref. 126613LB) is in keeping with the trend for blue hued timekeepers. Its Roselor bracelet is a combo of Oystersteel and gold, fashioned into the same slightly larger, yet thinner links as the rest of the 2020 Rolex Submariners.
Black Dial Submariner with a Black Bezel on a Roselor Bracelet – $14,300
I reckon this one’s somewhere between reserved and bling. It’s worth noting that the market isn’t as gimme gimme gimme crazy about two-tone Rolex as they are about the “classic” models. You might actually have a chance of buying one of these (ref. 126613LN) with relative ease. And a sackful of cash.
Black Dial Rolex Submariner with Black Bezel on a Yellow Gold Bracelet – $36,950
The Rolex Submariner President! Not really; that would require a gold dial. Even so, this gold-and-black Sub variant is the least subtle of the line; the watch that most boldly proclaims its owners financial status. In that sense, compared to the blue and white gold model above, ref. 126618LN is a bargain. These will be hard to find, if not afford.
Blue Dial Submariner with Blue Bezel on a Yellow Gold Bracelet – $36,950
The again, this blue-and-gold sub could be the statement piece in the collection, combining Rolex dollar flexing with blue trendiness. But really, people buying this bad boy are turned on by  “fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability.” Right?
Black Dial Rolex Submariner with Blue Bezel on a White Gold Bracelet – $39,650
Is white gold so precious that it justifies a $25,315 price bump? If not that, this: “On the 18 ct white gold version of the Submariner Date [ref. 126619LB], the Oyster bracelet includes ceramic inserts inside the links to enhance its flexibility and longevity.” This is the most expensive new Rolex Submariner – at least until the dateless all-black and Kermit hit the pre-owned market.
“Is white gold so precious that it justifies a $25,315 price bump?”
In fairness, look at the price of gold, you have to price in the buying of more gold for future watches. It’s somewhat fair depending on how many ounces are in a watch.
